Towan Isom is an accomplished marketing strategist. With more than 15 years of marketing expertise, Towan has helped many companies develop strategies to effectively reach consumers including: Glaxo Smith Kline (GKS), National Institute of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), Black Entertainment Television (BET), Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), Bragman, Nyman and Cafarelli, Comcast Cable, Nike, Pepsi and numerous others.
Towan started her career at BET Holdings, Inc., now Viacom as Senior Marketing Manager where she analyzed ratings and developed promotion campaigns to increase awareness of BET programs and strengthening the BET brand to advertising agencies. Being results-oriented, Towan set sponsorship objectives, analyzed advertising events and made recommendations to sever or continue sponsorship the following fiscal year. In another role as Senior Marketing Manager, Towan developed and implemented publicity campaigns for events and managed tradeshow promotions for BET and BET On Jazz including developing incentives for the local market advertising sales representatives including securing media contacts and media placement on television, online, print and radio for national and local promotions.
After her tenure with Viacom, Towan joined Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) where she conducted research of competitors and outlined sales and marketing strategies to support account managers. Additionally, she managed press campaigns and became instrumental in influencing public perception for children’s programs including developing the show’s talking points, press releases, press presentations and other media outreach efforts. Towan also served in the capacity of Creative Director for marketing collateral and show branding and identity.
It was the culmination of years or experience and opportunity that propelled Towan into the world of entrepreneurship. In 1998, Towan launched ISOM, a national multiservice marketing firm that combined her years of branding, research, marketing, and event to offer clients a full-service approach to their marketing needs. Now, clients don’t have to hire an event planning firm to plan their conference and a marketing firm to market the conference, they just call us…said Towan. Towan says, “Basic marketing fundamentals are the same, regardless of the industry. Great marketing comes from knowing people, not just the industry. In the future, companies who facilitate better relationships with their customers and develop strategies that motivate the consumers to act will do extremely well.
